David Krystal has always lived his life near the ocean.  Born and raised on Long Island, in New York, he spent years in San Diego, California before finally making his home on the Big Island of Hawaii.  It was in Kailua-Kona, with its natural beauty and tropical setting, where his fascination with the sea really began.

Always an avid swimmer and sportsman, David became a certified diver so he could get closer to the beautiful creatures he saw beneath the surface.  One of these, the Hawaiian Green Sea Turtle called 'HONU', truly fascinated him, as he found himself surrounded by these graceful creatures time and time again in Hawaii's water.  Hawaiians say that because this happens so frequently perhaps he shares their spirit of 'aumakua.

The HONU series is yet another chapter in David's photographic portfolio.  Other works include publicity photography for various theater groups, weddings and solo portrait pieces.

David's attraction to the Hawaii islands stems from a great love of the ocean and nature.  With all the majestic beauty that Hawaii has to offer, David has expanded his portfolio to also include some of the dazzling scenery that Hawaii is known for, such as its waterfalls, mountains, valleys and sunsets.

David is an exciting and creative photographer, who has captured the essence of the 'Honu' and Hawaii's tropical paradise in his superb fresh photography.  David spends as much time in the water with the Honu' as possible.  He finds these wonderful creatures to be peaceful and tranquil.  Swimming amongst them relaxes him and he feels blessed to be able to earn his living doing what he loves.

David has won several contests, numerous awards, several of his images have appeared in 2004, 2005 and 2006 and 2007 calendars and books and promotional catalogues and magazines.  David's work is in collections all over the world.  He is represented in numerous galleries in Australia and was featured in the 2003 Gold Coast International Small Business Show.  David was the only American represented, as well as the only photographer invited to show his work.  David's inspiration is his infant son Benjamin Grant born August 13, 2003.

David was honored to provide a selection of his photos for the covers of 12 monthly issues of a Queensland Gold Coast, Australia 2008 publication.  The prestigious high end gloss publication "room" chose Krystal's "contemporary and creative photography because of clarity and visual appeal which captured the essence of the tropical Gold Coast lifestyle".  Its search included viewing the portfolios of hundreds of photographers from around the world.

David has always been athletic and enjoys the outdoors.  He spent several years as a professional racquetball player and also enjoys golf and tennis.

David has now begun to transfer his fine art photography onto canvas which is an acid free cotton/polyester using archival pigmented inks engineered to last 200 years.

David's photos are available in all sizes matted and un-matted.  He also has prints available framed exclusively in solid Koa and Mango wood which is indigenous to the Hawaii islands.  His photographs are not digitally enhanced or manipulated in any way.

David resides in Kailua Kona with his wife Akemi and their son Benjamin.
