Kailua Village Artists

Steve Rice

Watercolor, Ink and Acrylic

A native Californian, I have been visiting the island of Hawaii for over thirty years.   As a teacher of Biology, I have spent many summers in Kailua Kona working with watercolor and acrylic medium creating paintings that depict the beauty and diversity of the Big Island.

I was trained as an Ecological Biologist but also classically schooled in art and have a dual degree from California State University at Fullerton.   During my training as a field biologist I have worked with the specialized art of biological illustration.   I have been an active member of the Kailua Village Artists Co-op since 2003.  My originals and prints have been sold to patrons from all over the United States as well as many foreign countries.

My joy is the blending Hawaii’s fantastic natural beauty with the creativity of water medium on paper or canvas.

I currently work out of my studio just three miles above Kailua Kona outside the town of the small town of Holualoa, situated on the slopes of the Hualalai volcano.  I am also reproducing all my own Giclee printing on fine watercolor paper or canvas and can print any image in a variety of sizes to meet the needs of my clients.
